GIRLS PUNISHED BY A LADYTEACHER
Here are a few recollections of girls about their lady teacher from two of our lady members.
Miss Mace - You were right, Joan, she was a real lady - but she still gave me six of the belt for sniggering the very first time she taught us.
Miss Gordon - I remember her quite well, got the cane off her many a time, and she hurt! My fingers would still be stinging when I was doing my homework that evening, she would really put her heart and soul in to caning!
Lady Teachers – I remember Sister Pauline giving us the cane for the slightest reason like not having your beret on correctly.
Headmistress – Has anyone else ever have to stand under the clock outside Miss Dodd’s office waiting for her to call you in for the cane!? I've been there twice!!!!!! Terrifying!!!!!!!!!! I've never forgot the experience.
Hem Inspection in Assembly - I recall impromptu Hem Inspections in morning Assembly by Miss Higgs. We lined up in Assembly, showing off our legs and Miss Higson made those with short skirts kneel on the stage in a line. If your skirt didn't touch the floor - you were for the strap and if you didn't wear your beret with badge showing at the front you got the strap for that too..
Miss Simmons - Always wore that blue check suit with the velvet collar. She was a very cold and sarcastic lady teacher. Myself and Lynn Jordan got the cane from her once for bunking off school. Only time she seemed to show any enjoyment or pleasure.
Mass Belting of Girls - After lunch break all the girls were told to line up in the playground before going into the school and Miss Bannister decided to have us all stand in register order then she told us to go to our classrooms, apart from specific girls who were to go to the assembly hall . The girls who lined-up in the hall she gave the belt. There were probably about fifty of us girls; we had all been late at least twice that week.
Miss Blackwell - Accolades to Miss Blackwell what a lovely lady teacher took our class for History and Art . Miss Robinson...my form teacher and the only teacher who ever gave me the cane.
